Hannah Fenn, Isabella Wilson and Megan Stow went from strangers at a trial to great friends on and off the pitch.
It was back in 2014 when Head of Operations Chris Cousins and Head Coach Tom Butcher ran the first ever women’s soccer assessment day in Coventry. With a handful of girls on the day, one of SRUSA women’s soccer special success stories was about to unfold, explains Sports Recruiting USA’s Jon Maloney.
Little did they know but three girls at the trial, all from different parts of the UK, were going to end up at the same college and become great friends. These three girls were Hannah Fenn, Isabella Wilson and Megan Stow.
I remember the skype call with women’s head coach Don Williams clearly when he was trying to recruit the girls for the team. I knew immediately that they were going to be in good hands and well looked after and was really impressed with what Feather River College could offer them.
In their first year at Feather River College all the girls contributed to the team which reached the regional playoffs after winning the regular season conference title. For the first time in their history, the women’s soccer team won in the regional playoffs beat Ohlone College 6-2 with the girls playing a big part.
Individually, all the girls also contributed in their second year as well as the team finished the season with a record of 11 wins, 6 defeats and 1 draw. The contribution from the girls was superb with a combined 19 goals and 21 assists between them. An awesome effort from two midfielders and a forward.
The great thing about all three girls is that along with working hard on the soccer field, they do the same in the classroom. All three made the 2015 All Academic Conference team which is a brilliant achievement. Their Grade Point Average (GPA) were also impressive with Hannah at 3.48, Megan’s was 3.54 and Isabella’s was 3.71.
At this point, it is important to mention the crucial part that head coach Don Williams and his coaching staff played in the development of the three players. They have grown both on and off the field and for that, we can’t thank Don and his staff enough.
As they have now finished their 2 years at Feather River College, all three have moved onto pastures new and are all now at top institutions. Hannah is currently starring at LA Tech which is a NCAA D1 school in Louisiana and has already scored her first goal for the university. Megan is at Barry University in Miami, Florida and they recently met Brazilian legend Ronaldo at there. Barry made it to the Elite Eight of the nationals last year and were Conference and Regional Champions. And last but not least, Isabella has joined NAIA Point Park University in Pittsburgh who were last year’s conference champions and made it to the national tournament. All three girls deserve great credit and we can’t wait to continue to follow their careers.
The girls have been a credit to themselves and SRUSA and we are very proud of all of them. We will look forward to following their junior and senior years with interest and we are excited about what the future holds for them.
Not only are they great players and great people, but they became great friends as well.
