Maidenhead Confirm Promotion To Premier League

After a successful 2014/15 which has seen Maidenhead United complete a league and cup double, they have confirmed their promotion to the FA Premier League- Division 1 South West for the 2015/16 season.

So far, the team is still unbeaten in the Southern Region, maintaining a 100% league record whilst on Sunday they recorded a North Hants Cup victory whilst also finishing runners-up in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup.

The team has been free scoring this season scoring over 100 competitive goals with leading scorers Olivia Buzaglo, team captain Tina Brett and Lucy Smith all level a piece with 23 goals so far with two games still to play.

Manager, Ryan Salmon said: “After the disappointment of not receiving promotion last season the team really wanted to go out and prove a point that they deserved the opportunity to play at a higher level. This season has been fantastic with some very good performances and the girls have really deserved every success they have had through their own hard work.

“When we were offered promotion to the FA Women’s Premier League, it was not a decision we all took lightly. It was important that we sat down as a ladies section and discussed about ensuring we are sustainable at the next level, which with the continued support of Maidenhead United FC, was never in question.

“It was then a case of explaining to the players the challenge that the next level would bring and I very much left it in their court to let me know individually whether it was challenge they wanted to take up. The response was very good and knowing that we have a fantastic base to push forward from, we accepted the offer of promotion. The squad is very hungry and are all looking forward to the challenge the FA Women’s Premier League will bring.”

Maidenhead United will be operating pre-season open trials and would be interested in hearing from players with Premier League and Combination League experience, or players aspiring to play at a better level. For details, please contact Ryan on [email protected].
