Manchester City full-back Lucy Bronze has been crowned the PFA Players’ Player of the Year in association with Sodexo for the second time in her career at the 2017 PFA Awards in London on Sunday evening.
Bronze has been a crucial part of the City defence who conceded only four goals on their way to winning the WSL 1.
Bronze has proved she is always dangerous in attack and scored the extra-time winner to secure the Continental Tyres Cup for City in October.
Birmingham City defender Jess Carter is the PFA Young Player of the Year in association with Sodexo.
Jess Carter’s phenomenal displays in City’s back line earned the 19-year-old all the plaudits at her club’s award ceremony as well as a recent senior international call-up for England.
She won all four Blues’ player of the season votes and is also making strides at international level, being included in the recent England squad to face Italy and Austria.
Arsenal and England’s Kelly Smith MBE has won the PFA Special Achievement Award.
Smith announced her retirement from football at the start of 2017 after a stellar career that spanned two decades.
Smith is the official all-time record goalscorer for England for England, with 46 strikes in 117 appearances.
She played in two World Cups and four European Championships, as well as the London 2012 Olympic Games, and was in the top five for the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year Award every year from 2006 to 2009.
