Lucy Bronze believes England have a squad of ‘winners’ despite concerns over the side’s inexperience heading into Women’s Euro 2025.

The 23-player England squad has convened at St James’ Park ahead of the tournament which begins on July 5th against France in Zurich.

Preparation for the tournament has been far from ideal with three senior England players pulling out of contention just before Sarina Wiegman announced her squad.

Mary Earps and Fran Kirby decided to retire from international football, while Millie Bright also withdrew from selection and has undergone surgery on a knee injury.

The squad includes seven players who will feature at their first international tournament. That list includes Michelle Agyemang, Aggie Beever-Jones, Grace Clinton, Khiara Keating, Maya Le Tissier, Anna Moorhouse, and Jess Park.

Meanwhile, 13 players who lifted the trophy in 2022 are back in the squad.

Despite some concerns over the high-profile changes, Bronze believes England have a squad capable of defending their trophy this summer.

England squad full of ‘winners’ insists Lucy Bronze

Lucy Bronze has hailed the England squad ahead of Women’s Euro 2025 in Switzerland.

The Chelsea star insists they still have a squad of ‘winners’ despite losing Mary Earps, Fran Kirby and Millie Bright.

Bronze told the media: “I think mentally, we’ve got a lot of winners on the team.

“We did fantastic (at the 2023 World Cup), but I think now we’ve got a group of players who (for them), their mentality is to win.

“The fact that Arsenal won the Champions League this year. The fact that so many Chelsea players have accomplished so many things this year. (Manchester) United players get in the (FA Cup) final.

“We’ve got players who want to win, can win, have shown that they can win and we bring that all together in the England team. We want to win and do that on a consistent basis.”

England squad changes since Euro 2022

The Euro 2025 England team has 10 changes to the squad that lifted the trophy three years ago.

Mary Earps and Fran Kirby retired from international football just before Sarina Wiegman announced her 23-player squad, while Millie Bright also withdrew from selection.

Jill Scott and Ellen White have retired from football, while Rachel Daly retired from international football.

Other players who were part of the 2022 squad but not in 2025, include Ellie Roebuck, Demi Stokes, Bethany England, and Nikita Parris.

Michelle Agyemang, Aggie Beever-Jones, Grace Clinton, Khiara Keating, Maya Le Tissier, Anna Moorhouse, and Jess Park have all been selected to their first major senior tournament for the Lionesses.

Niamh Charles, Esme Morgan and Lauren James all make the squad after previously being included in England’s 2023 World Cup squad.

According to the best UK betting sites, England are 11/8 to win the group and just 4/1 to win the whole tournament.
