Loren Dykes To Tackle Kilimanjaro

Bristol Academy defender Loren Dykes will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK next summer.

If juggling a full-time job, playing in the FAWSL and for the Welsh national side wasn’t challenging enough, Loren Dykes will be testing her herself mentally and physically with the challenge of a lifetime in aid of a great cause.

Loren said: “With your help I hope to raise money that will go towards doubling the survival rates within the next 5 years and changing the NHS experience, providing extra support for patients and families who are affected by pancreatic cancer.”

By raising just £55, this could give support to one patient, family or carer affected by pancreatic cancer; £100 could pay for a days research into new treatments, improving existing treatments and controlling treatment for side effects. Raising £1000 could pay for 10 nurses to attend training, updating their knowledge and expertise to support those affected.

Over the weekend, Loren organised a charity golf event for Pancreatic Cancer UK which raised £1,875. Her Bristol Academy team-mates were out in full force to support as well, including captain Jemma Rose and Welsh midfielder Sophie Ingle.

Earlier in the week, Centre of Excellence manager Mark Humphrey took on the Ice Bucket Challenge which raised £137, and the Centre of Excellence and SGS College students have also been collecting at Bristol Academy games, which sees Loren’s total currently at £2,270.
