Loass FC / Football Remembers

Loass FC Girls hosted their most-feared rivals, both at the U-12 and U-15 age groups, on Sunday at Leyton’s Jubilee Park in the Essex County League Cup.

The Loass U-12 team started slowly and conceded an early goal after a goalmouth scramble, last year’s cup winners Writtle FC sat back and allowed Loass to continue to pepper their goal, which was defended stoutly. It took Loass a further 11 minutes to open their account with a great finish after a mazy run down the right flank from In-form winger Eve Pearson. As usual, once Loass got the taste for goals and the next came quickly with a second added before the break.

The second half started where the first left off and the East Londoners quickly established supremacy with another two quick goals courtesy of Elisabeth Santiago and one for tenacious midfielder Tegan Attree.

Writtle continued to defend with a high line which allowed Loass to get in behind the defense on a number of ocassions, which concluded with a brace each for Santiago and Pearson.

Midfielder Josie Burke also netted to make the victory all the sweeter. The Loass defence showed great fortitude and was lead by the great pairing of Jaena Tolliday and Kate Lucas in the central positon. Ria Lee and Evie Jonhston showed great resilience when under pressure at the back, together with Jessie Burke guarding the net.

Waltham Forest Coach of the Year Joe Sheehan said after the game; “this victory against one of our strongest rivals shows the benefits that hard work and a great team ethic brings”.

Loass U-12s are now in the quarter-finals of both the Capital Cup and Essex League Cup. Sheehan added; “this is our fifth straight victory … a great way to end an already successful 2014”.

The U-15s were defeated after a fiercely contested battle which saw Writtle net four goals to the one by Loass. The older girls really showed grit and determination to keep the score as it was.

Prior to the game, Loass FC Girls and Writtle took part in commemorating the WW1 rememberance by tweeting photographs to #Football Remembers together with the rest of the footballing world .
