Cwmbran-based Llanyrafon Ladies were crowned National Women’s champions of the new FAW Cwpan Y Bobl Cup (FAW Peoples Cup) and in doing so, also won a trip to France.
They will be taken to Wales’ Base Camp in Dinard to watch Chris Coleman’s team training as they prepare for the first match of the 2016 EURO Tournament.
Llanyrafon will also watch a Wales Press Conference in the Media Centre, before playing a match against French opponents at the Wales team base. And after the final whistle, they will enjoy some French hospitality with their opponents, to relive those key match moments.
Llanyrafon won all their qualifying matches in the group stage and went on to beat Barry Town United in the semi-finals, to set up a final against strong opponents in Penybont.
It was a close game with Penybont taking the lead from a penalty but Llanyrafon came back to equalise with a goal from Eleri Williams.
Then in the last minute, Emily Bayliss cut through both defenders with a rocket shot into the right-hand corner, giving the goalkeeper no chance.
The team were ecstatic with the result and the achievement of being undefeated all the way through.
Llanyrafon will be losing a few players to University this summer, so are looking for new or old players. Contact [email protected].
