Liverpool striker Leanne Kiernan has signed a new contract with the Women’s Super League (WSL) side just over two weeks before the start of the new season.
The Republic of Ireland international joined the Reds in the summer of 2021 from West Ham.
She netted 13 goals in her first season to help the Merseyside club get promoted to the English top-flight.
Kiernan is the club’s second-highest scorer in the Women’s Super League era and this will be her fifth season at the club.
Leanne Kiernan explains decision to sign new Liverpool contract
Liverpool striker Leanne Kiernan told the club’s website that it “feels amazing” to sign a new contract with the club.
She said: “[My family are] delighted, honestly. It’s like a second home for them as well as me and they love it over here. I could actually see myself, after I finish my career, in Liverpool. I feel like they’re really enjoying coming over to see me.
“[The fans] have been unbelievable – really supportive throughout injuries, really supportive by sticking with us and I feel like they’ve been there for the good times and the bad. Hopefully, we’ll be able to celebrate with them a lot this year.”
Liverpool will hope to improve on their seventh-place finish last season, under new manager Gareth Taylor.

Kiernan’s contract extension comes after defender Gemma Bonner penned a new deal earlier this summer.
It has been a mixed summer for the Reds who have signed four players but also lost some big names.
Olivia Smith joined Arsenal for a world record £1m. Her performances at Liverpool earned her the PFA Young Player of the Year award in Tuesday’s PFA awards ceremony.
Former vice-captain Taylor Hinds also joined the Gunners on a free transfer at the end of her contract.
When does the 2025-26 Women’s Super League season start?
Leanne Kiernan will hope to play a big part when Liverpool start their season with the Merseyside Derby.
The Reds host Everton on Sunday, September 7th, in a game that will be shown on Sky Sports.
One player who will likely miss the game is goalkeeper Rachael Laws.
Laws is set to miss the start of the season after suffering a hand injury during training.
She will likely be replaced by new signing Rafaela Borggrafe, who joined the club from Freiburg earlier this summer.
