Liverpool are reportedly closing in on signing Manchester City defender Risa Shimizu with transfer deadline day fast approaching.
The Reds have signed four players so far this summer and Shimizu would be the fifth through the door.
Liverpool looking to sign Risa Shimizu
Risa Shimizu spent last season with Manchester City, but the Japanese international didn’t feature at all for the Cityzens.
Just two months after signing a three-year deal with City Shimizu was hit with a heartbreaking injury.
The 29-year-old suffered a brutal ACL injury while on international duty with Japan at the Olympic Games.
After tearing her ACL, Shimizu spent the entirety of 2024/25 on the sidelines for Manchester City.
The good news is that the experienced defender has finally made her return to the pitch, after featuring for City in a pre-season friendly win over Durham.

Before she played for City Shimizu played for West Ham. In 2023/24, the defender featured in all 22 of West Ham’s WSL games to earn a move to City.
Having spent a year away from football it is no surprise to see Shimizu linked to another WSL club this summer.
Liverpool could be a good fit for City’s defender who is looking to get her career back on track this year.
Who have Liverpool signed this summer?
Liverpool have made four signings so far this summer in Rafaela Borggrafe, Sam Kerr, Kirsty Maclean and Lily Woodham.
Lily Woodham is the only defender to join the Reds so far ahead of the transfer deadline.
With two other Liverpool defenders leaving this year, there is a very good chance that the club will go in for another centre back before Thursday’s deadline.
With just over 24 hours until the transfer window officially closes in England, Liverpool will have to work fast if they are to sign Shimizu. It is believed the Reds are exploring a loan move.
The Reds get their WSL campaign underway on Sunday afternoon with a Merseyside derby at Anfield against Everton.
