It’s as you were for the top three in the last FIFA/Coca Cola Women’s World Ranking of 2017, while Australia went fourth and there were impressive advances for both Irish teams.

The USA are in pole position over Christmas for the third year running and ahead of Germany, whose lead over England is narrowed.

An impressive run of results lifts Australia into the top five for the first time ever but France slip to places to sixth.

Scotland dropped one place to 23rd but Wales rose a single place to 35th.

Spain (13th) and Republic of Ireland (29th) both climbed four places, with Northern Ireland up five to 55th and Kosovo gaining eight places to 97th, although the latter was largely to the inactivity of Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Senegal, Guinea and Burkina Faso.

However, Madagascar (117th) and Mauritius entered the ranking for the first time, while Argentina (36th), Mozambique (109th), Malawi (110th), Lesotho (111th) and Swaziland (113th) all made comebacks.
