Lewes Ladies report that as manager John Donoghue continues to build his squad for the forthcoming Premier League campaign, a number of players from last season’s squad have again committed themselves to the club.
We have also secured a number of new signings which will provide more depth & strength to the squad. Kelly Newton will once again captain the side in what will be her 13th season at the club.
The squad started their pre-season on the 1st July at their new training facility – The Rookery and this will be the training facility for the Women’s section on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, as well as the home venue for the two Development Squads on Sundays and will save thousands of pounds in training costs. The 1st Team squad will continue to play at the club’s 3,000 capacity ground.
Clare Trafford will be leaving the club after deciding to retire from the women’s game. Charlotte Bennett will re-sign but her playing time will be limited as she spends more time with her young family.
John has made one addition to his back room team and bought in Bridgitte Swales as the strength & conditioning coach. Luis Freitas, Radd Reynolds, Calum Green and Graham Leach will continue as part of John’s coaching staff, as well as Mark Currier and Martin Perkins who remain in charge of the Development Squads. There will be a number of new players joining the these sides as well , which will further strengthen the pathway.
The Rookettes season starts on the 16th August against Plymouth Argyle at the Pan. It promises to be a tough and exciting season as Lewes again compete at step 3 of the women’s pyramid.
Given the success of the Women’s World Cup this summer, Lewes FC are pleased to announce the launch of a new season ticket to help further build their fan base for the Ladies which will cost £25. This is great value given the games on offer at the Pan. Contact [email protected] .
