Leicester City Women have signed 5 ft 11 centre back Ashleigh Plumptre from University of South California side USC Trojans.
Plumptre had been high on manager Jonathan Morgan’s wish list since last April and the Foxes got her signature despite interest from Barclays FA WSL teams, as well as clubs abroad.
Comfortable in a number of positions including full back and centre midfield, 21-year-old Plumptre won the NCAA National Championship with USC and was in the Notts County squad for the first ever Wembley FA Women’s Cup Final.
Plumptre told lcwfc.com: “Leicester Is a club very close to my heart. I am a Leicester City fan firstly and being able to play for the club I love and support is fantastic. I have grown up with Leicester City in my heart and even played for the Centre of Excellence when I was younger. From a football point of view, I feel very confident that the club can strive for promotion within the next 18 months. The ambition and the plans behind the scenes at Leicester is something to be very excited about.”
Manager Jonathan Morgan commented: “I am delighted to capture Ashleigh from USC. She is a player that has been on the club’s radar for a long time. We have followed her closely over in America and watched her development from a far. One of the qualities that we immediately noticed was Ashleigh’s dedication to the sport of football and her utmost professionalism. The time she has spent improving herself to become the best possible version of herself is phenomenal and it is this type of attitude we want to engrain within our young squad.”
