Leicester City Women pip Man City on pens in Conti Cup

Leicester City banked a FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup bonus point with a shoot-out win over Manchester City following a 2-2 draw at full time.

Group A – Aston Villa 7-0 Blackburn Rovers

Group B – Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United, Manchester City 2-2 Leicester City (Leicester won shoot-out 4-3)

Group C – Crystal Palace 3-0 Watford, Lewes 0-1 London City Lionesses

Group D – Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 Bristol City

Group E – Charlton Athletic 1-0 Birmingham City, Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1 West Ham United

Janice Cayman and Sophie Howard both struck for the Foxes in a four-minute spell before the break, Deyna Castellanos and Laura Coombs replying to rescue a point for Manchester City but Leicester profiting from penalties to take a second point. Nikita Parris gave Manchester United victory away to Liverpool, scoring late in the first half.

Guro Bergsvand gave Brighton the lead in first-half stoppage-time, with Vicky Losada and Veatriki Sarri both converting from the spot, before Hawa Cissoko got a late consolation for West Ham. Tegan McGowan’s first-half effort was enough for Charlton Athletic to beat Birmingham City.

Spurs made it back-to-back wins in Group D, defeating Bristol City as a Kit Graham spot-kick was added to by Rosella Ayane’s brace.

Crystal Palace scored three second-half goals against Watford through Kirsten Reilly, Araya Dennis and Elise Hughes, while in the same group London City Lionesses took the points at Lewes through a Kate Mooney own-goal five minutes from time.

Aston Villa sank Blackburn Rovers 7-0 to go top of Group A, with Alisha Lehmann and Rachel Daly both scoring twice, one apiece for Ebony Salmon, Maz Pacheco and Simone Magill.

Group D – Southampton v Arsenal (Southampton FC, 6.30pm)
