Leicester City reached the Adobe Women’s FA Cup semi-finals for the first time ever with a 2-0 victory away to Liverpool.

Leicester took a 15th-minute lead when Janice Cayman hit the far post and Jutta Rantala followed up to beat goalkeeper Rachel Laws.

Mia Enderby went close for Liverpool as they sought an equaliser, Missy Bo Kearns got a shot off quickly to force a save from Lize Kop soon afterwards.

The Foxes had caused some of their own defensive problems and looked set to pay for one as Kop played the ball straight to Marie Hobinger, but her chip hit the far post and stayed out.

The home side survived Aileen Whelan’s glanced header across their goalmouth but with less than half an hour to go they fell two behind, as Rantala stepped inside to fire over Laws and in off the bar.

With Liverpool barely threatening the visitors’ goal after the break, Leicester go into the hat for Tuesday’s semi-final draw.
