Leanne Ross says that her Glasgow City side will be training on Tuesday afternoon ahead of Wednesday’s must-win Europa Cup game against Sporting CP.
But following that, they’ll be watching Scotland’s men in their World Cup qualifier against Denmark, and hoping for inspiration.
“We’ll be training this evening, but we’re hoping to get back in time for kick-off, and we’ll definitely be supporting the boys, and hopefully we can get the result that we need to take us to the World Cup,” Ross told a press conference on Tuesday morning.
The first leg at Petershill Park last week ended in a 1-1 draw – meaning it’s winner-takes-all on Wednesday.
“It becomes a cup final because it’s been a draw in the first leg, so we need to make sure that we win this game tomorrow to take us through to the next round,” said Ross.
“We’ve gone over a lot of the footage from last week’s game.
“And without being arrogant about it, I think we can still go in and be respectful to the team that Sporting are and to the talent that they have individually and collectively within there, but I’ve seen enough from my team on Wednesday night [last week] to give us confidence going into this leg that we can go and give it a real good go.”
Leanne Ross: Glasgow City are confident
Ross’s team go into the match off the back of a 6-1 win away at Montrose on Sunday.
“There’s a big confidence within the squad at the moment,” added Ross.
“And I keep saying it, but the competition that we have and the standards that we hold ourselves to, a lot of the performances are coming direct from the players themselves.
“They want to play in this team and they know that to do that they need to be performing in games and in training. So they’re pushing each other all the way and just really enjoying the football that they’re playing at the moment.”
Glasgow City play Sporting FC in the round of 16 second leg of the Europa Cup at the Stadium Aurelio Pereira on Wednesday, kicking off at 7.45pm.
