Arsenal boss confirms Leah Williamson will make return in the Champions league

Arsenal's Leah Williamson signed a new contract

Arsenal will welcome back their vice captain on Tuesday night, as Leah Williamson prepares to make her season debut against FC Twente in the Champions League.

Williamson hasn’t played for Arsenal yet this season after having minor knee surgery following the Euros.

Leah Williamson making return

It has been a long road to recovery for Leah Williamson but the time has finally come for the defender to make her return.

Williamson – who was named European Golden Player this year – was last seen in the Euro 2025 final and she toughed it out to play the full 90 minutes as England secured back to back titles.

After the win, Williamson confirmed she was struggling with a knee injury and she was forced to have surgery.

Now after four months on the sideline Arsenal’s vice captain is making her long-awaited return.

“Against Liverpool it was good to get her back into routines and also good to have her around,” Renee Slegers said.

“She is doing well, did the full session today again and she’s available for a couple of minutes tomorrow. She won’t be starting tomorrow but she’ll be in the squad.”

The 28-year-old made the bench for the first time against Liverpool, but she didn’t feature in the win.

Arsenal did welcome back club captain Kim Little who appeared briefly in the WSL game.

Little may get her first start since November against Twente, and Williamson is sure to receive a warm reception when she comes off the bench.

Williamson’s return sure to boost morale

There have been reports of a splintered dressing room within Arsenal in the past month.

Players have been quick to deny the rumours but results for the Gunners have been poor of late.

After going winless in three games, Arsenal returned to form with back to back victories against Real Madrid and Liverpool.

The return of Leah Willamson is sure to boost morale in the camp whether it is low or not and Renee Slegers’ team will be confident heading into a must-win Champions League game on Tuesday.
