Kirsty Howat and Ellie Kane have collected the September 2023/24 Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) Player of the Month awards, supported by Park’s Motor Group.
Kane becomes the first ever player to win a Player of the Month award back-to-back in the SWPL. She has scored in every single match she’s played this season, taking her total to 11 goals from six games along with four assists. Queen’s Park had scored a total of 23 goals by the end of September, meaning she had a contribution rate of just over 65%.
The Spiders suffered their first defeat of the season in their final game of the month against Kilmarnock, dropping them down to second in the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2. However, they progressed in the Sky Sports Cup and defeated Stirling University as they sit just a point behind Killie with a superior goal difference.
In the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League, Kirsty Howat picked up the award for the first time in her career. The forward was nominated three times last season for May 2023, February 2023, October 2022 as she makes it fourth time lucky.
Rangers had a prolific month in front of goal, scoring 25 times in their four games. Howat scored in every match, racking up a total of seven goals including the vital finish in their 1-0 win over Partick Thistle.
The strikers’ fine form also earned her a call up to the Scotland Women’s National Team, replacing the injured Emma Watson, for their recent match against Belgium.
The nominees for the September 2023 SWPL award were Jorian Baucom (Hibernian), Rio Hardy (Rangers), Meikayla Moore (Glasgow City) and for the SWPL 2 award were Erin Burns (Livingston) and Fiona Gibson (Boroughmuir Thistle).
