Kerstin Casparij credits Andree Jeglertz for Manchester City’s ‘freedom’ this season

Manchester City could challenge Arsenal and Chelsea for WSL title

Manchester City have been unstoppable this season and Kerstin Casparij has credited the change in management for her team’s success.

Andree Jeglertz has been a revelation for City since arriving in Manchester at the start of the season.

Kerstin Casparij: City playing ‘free’ under Jeglertz

After finishing behind Chelsea for the last six years, Manchester City have finally broken the curse this season.

The league leaders are nine points clear at the top ahead of a grudge match against Chelsea this weekend that could all but confirm them as champions.

Speaking this week ahead of the game, City star Kerstin Casparij credited the change in management for her team’s vast success.

“It’s little tweaks that matter the most, and also Andree’s playing style. We get so much freedom, and also trust and responsibility. Previously it was a good system but a bit robotic at times.

“We do all the analysis and he gives us everything we need but if something’s a bit different, he can’t change that from the side. Leaving that space allows us to be adaptable on the pitch.”

Jeglertz has been phenomenal in his debut WSL season, winning three consecutive manager of the month awards to end 2025.

“I’ve got such a strong desire to show everybody what I can do and be the best that I can be.” Casparij continued. “I’m really enjoying our offensive style of play this year and linking up with Bunny [Shaw] and Kerolin and all the other incredible forwards that we have. It’s just been a joy to work. I go every day with a smile on my face.”

The Dutch midfielder has been great in her fourth season in Manchester as she took home WSL player of the month in November.

What next for Manchester City?

Although they have been unstoppable in the first half of this season, their campaign will mean nothing if City don’t go on to win the league.

Sunday’s game against Chelsea is the biggest match of the year so far.

A win for City would send them nine points clear at the top of the table, while three points for Chelsea would close the gap down to six.

Despite City being above them in the standings the Blues are still favourites to win this weekend.
