Keren Banduka discharged from hospital after collapsing during Reading game

In a scary moment on Sunday, Reading striker Keren Banduka collapsed on the field during a game before being rushed to the local hospital.

Reading have since provided a positive update on their forward following the scare.

Keren Banduka recovering from health scare

Keren Banduka was playing for Reading in a Southern Premier Division game at Arbour Park on Sunday.

During the first half against Southampton Banduka suddenly collapsed off the ball, with medical professionals rushing onto the pitch to assist the forward.

All players from both teams returned to the changing rooms while the paramedics ensured the player was in a stable condition.

Banduka was taken to hospital shortly after. With players clearly in shock after the event, it was confirmed that the game would be abandoned after the 35th minute.

Reading released a statement on Monday regarding the situation, with a positive update on Banduka’s health.

“Following a thorough assessment, she has been discharged and is now at home recovering,” Reading said.

“We would like to thank the medical staff from both clubs and the responding paramedics for their immediate and professional attention.”

It is still unknown whether or not Reading will replay their final game of 2025 after the match was abandoned.

Southampton held on to a 1-0 lead until Banduka collapsed, but it is more than likely that the game will be rearranged or voided altogether.

With all the women’s leagues in England now on a hiatus for the winter break, Banduka has plenty of time to recover from the scary incident.

Reading were relegated from the WSL in 2023, but they were then dropped down to the fifth tier of women’s football after the club struggled to stay afloat amid a financial crisis.
