Charlotte Richardson reports that Kent FA hosted an extra special Goals for Girls festival last Saturday to celebrate International Women’s Day.
114 teams from across the county travelled to Kent FA HQ to enjoy a morning of 4v4 football in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere in the sunshine.
The festival enabled over 500 girls from the age of 8 to Mums who decided to mark International Women’s Day by participating in a brilliant football festival.
The hundreds of players, parents and volunteers were also treated to a special appearance from Gillingham Ladies FC Captain Lauren Williams who was delighted to be part of the day.
“I can’t believe there are so many people from all ages at the festival. It’s fantastic the Kent FA has organised such an event, and on the weekend of International Women’s Day, it demonstrates how well girls and women’s football is doing in Kent. I’ve really enjoyed meeting the players today and seeing so many of them come along to our game against QPR on the Sunday was special.”
Kent FA Football Development Office Liz Symons was delighted to see the event grow and hopes the festival will further build enthusiasm for the girls and women’s game in Kent.
“Our Goals for Girls festival on International Women’s Day was fantastic. To see so many teams and girls playing was really rewarding and inspiring. The Goals for Girls festival has grown massively and we were able to cater to such huge numbers thanks to the help from our Football Futures volunteers who were outstanding. To have such enthusiastic, bright and helpful young volunteers facilitating such a big event ensures the future of Kent football is in good hands.”
“Saturday’s festival wrapped up a brilliant couple of weeks promoting women and girls football in Kent and we look forward to using this momentum to propel some good attendance figures at our Youth and Women’s Cup finals in the upcoming weeks.”
If you’d like to continue supporting girls and women’s football in Kent, why not come along to one of our #KentCups finals?
