Kent sealed the Southern Counties title on Wednesday 7th February, with a 2-0 win away to Essex at Aveley FC.

They made the best of starts by scoring just 2 minutes in, when Sophie Brown’s free-kick from a tight angle sneaked inside the near post.

Charlie Myhill went close to doubling the lead when through on goal but fired just wide, before the hosts’ Miagh Downey saw her dipping effort bounce off the top of the crossbar.

Goalkeeper Robyn Strauss came to Essex’s rescue, making a good stop when Amy Russ broke into the area.

Just before the hour mark Essex hit the bar a second time, as Chloe Bassett’s corner bounced off the woodwork.

Five minutes later Kent got their second goal, as Russ impressively scored from all off 35 yards out.

That strike was the cue for Downey to have a similar go but she was thwarted by a fine save from Cara Davies, who tipped the ball over the top.

Kent might have had a third goal but Jess Oldfield’s charge through was met by a smart stop from substitute keeper Hayley Johnson.
