Kent Cup Final Preview

Gillingham will be looking to retain the Kent Cup (sponsored by She Kicks) for another year as they face London Corinthians at Maidstone United on Wednesday 25th March.

The final which is scheduled to kick off at 7:45pm will see two of Kent’s leading women’s teams battle it all for silverware.

The two teams have scored bag fulls of goals in the build up to Wednesday’s final. Holders Gillingham Ladies received a bye in the first round whilst London Corinthians began their road to the final with a comfortable 9-0 victory at home to Meridian.

It was another relatively easy encounter in the next round for London Corinthians who travelled to play Wednesday evening’s hosts Maidstone United. The team enjoyed a comfortable 5-1 victory. Gills Ladies meanwhile travelled to Parkwood Rangers where they won 8-0 to set up a home tie in the semi-final.

The FA Women’s Premier League side then knocked out Kent Women’s Plate holders Herne Bay Ladies thanks to a 3-0 win. London Corinthians went one better, beating Aylesford 4-0.

It’s going to be an entertaining affair next week and Gillingham Ladies Manager Simon Ratcliffe hopes his team can take the Cup back to Priestfield again.

“I’m delighted the club are involved with this final for another year” said Ratcliffe. “The Kent Women’s Cup is always a priority and a competition the club has enjoyed huge success with over the years. We hope this evening to continue that and be part of another fantastic Kent Cups final.”

Ratcliffe added, “It has been a season of real transition for the club this year. Following one of the most successful years in the club’s history, over the summer a whole host of players departed and the club has been rebuilding a team to continue to lead the way in women’s football in Kent.”

“The squad we have at Gillingham Ladies have really stuck together this season. Over the months the team has gotten better, our style of football improved and we are beginning to see the potential we truly have at the football club to push on to be bigger and better next season.”

The Gills manager is fully aware of the threat London Corinthians will present particularly having enjoyed such goal scoring prowess in this County Cup competition.

“London Corinthians have scored a lot of goals to get to the final and having conceded just one goal so far, we know it will take a huge amount of effort to win the Women’s Cup. “

London Corinthians management duo expressed their pride at leading their team to the Women’s Cup final and are hoping for a real occasion for the club to enjoy.

“Huge congratulations to all the girls for reaching this final, for their hard work, great attitude, and enormous skill and desire to win every match they play. They have been and are always a joy to watch and train, their individual personalities are special in every way.”
