Charlton Athletic’s Karen Hills has been awarded the Barclays Women’s Championship Manager of the Month trophy for September 2022 by the LMA Panel.
Charlton were the only Barclays Women’s Championship team to earn maximum points in September, as Hills guided her team to a 3-0 victory over Birmingham, before a last minute winner away to Sunderland lifted Charlton to second place, one point behind league leaders Bristol City.
Upon receiving the Manager of the Month trophy Hills said: “It’s an achievement, not for myself but for the group. If it wasn’t for the players doing what they do on the pitch then we wouldn’t be in this position. I am pleased to pick up the award on behalf of all my staff and players.
“It just goes to show the work being put in comes to the forefront. It is a massive team effort, I have some fantastic staff that work alongside me, backroom staff that never come to the forefront. If it wasn’t for those people doing what they do on a daily basis then the team wouldn’t be able to perform the way they do week in week out. It is an absolute credit to where we have come from in a very short space of time. We have only been full time for this second season, to pick up this award early on in the second season is credit to the staff and players.”
Chair of the League Managers Association panel Faye White MBE added: “Charlton has started the season well, demonstrating their ability to score plenty of goals in the two games in September. Hills can be proud of how the team responded against Sunderland, coming from behind to secure the three points.
“The next couple of months will be key to Hills and her side, as they attempt to establish themselves as title challengers this season.”
