Jordan Nobbs: ‘55,000 will be crazy’

Jordan Nobbs has been speaking to Andy Lamb ahead of the England v Germany friendly at Wembley Stadium on Sunday and admits a crowd of 55,000 ‘will be crazy’.

How are you feeling after hearing you made the 23?

I’m feeling great, everyone was waiting for the email or letter to be in the squad. Once I got that it was amazing really to know i can be a part of it and be a part of one of our first games at Wembley”

A great move by the FA to host it there too

Definitely, and the way they have promoted the game has just been massive and massive for women’s football. Everywhere in the country people are talking about it and I think that shows in the crowd we’ve got. The FA has done a great job and that will hopefully encourage it to happen more often.

Looking back at the game v Sweden – what kind of energy did you get off the crowd there?

Great – I think it was one of the best – if not the best – I’ve seen at an England game. The environment and everything was really good. That was only at 5,000 – I think 55,000 will be crazy and a great experience but it definitely helped as a player knowing that people are watching you, supporting you, and getting behind you as a player.

Did you pay much attention to how ticket sales were going?

No to be honest, My focus was playing and trying to get into the squad and obviously the final 11 now. Whether there was 5,000 or 55,000 it’s a great opportunity to play a top team like Germany.

If you’re named in the starting 11, that will be special running out of the tunnel at Wembley

Yeah, just being there in general is going to be massive. Hopefully I can get in the starting 11 and be part of the game. It’s what I’m aiming for and hopefully that can happen.

Mark Sampson has sent a strong message to Germany with his team choice too hasn’t he?

He has a really strong squad to pick from, many players could be a part of it. Mark has made the right decisions so far and it has shown in our performances and games. Everyone will be working their hardest to get in the starting 11 and obviously if they get on and take part as well.

Any advice from Steph Houghton about how to get an early goal?

We meet up again on Tuesday. that’s when the final planning will begin and everyone’s past experiences will come out. I think that whatever pitch we play on, we just have to stick to what we do and get the tactics right and hopefully that happens on the day. A goal v Germany will be amazing. To get a win as a team against one of the best sides in the world will be massive for England and women’s football in the UK. It will also be important as we look forward to the World Cup next year.

How has training gone?

It’s been massive in how much work everyone has had to put in; players, staff and Mark. It shows in the whole squad and we have strengthened day by day. We have all been preparing for this for a long time and we are ready. “

What are the plans for the next couple of days leading up to Sunday?

More training and meetings on plans on how we are hopefully going to beat Germany. I think we are capable now of doing that. If we listen and get it right, it will definitely happen on the day.

And an early night on Saturday?

“Yeah of course! Sleep is most important – sleep and food, we will obviously be professional and prepared for it as well.
