It was arguably a summer to forget for the US Women’s National Team when they exited the Olympics at the quarter finals stage, following a penalty shoot out with Sweden.
Coach Jill Ellis is taking a new approach to the squad in the hopes of refreshing the playing pool and atmosphere by bringing in 11 as yet uncapped players to a training camp that will finish with two friendlies against Switzerland (on 19th Oct, Sandy, Utah and 23rd Oct, Minneapolis). The sides have met twice previously, with the US coming away with victories on both occasions.
Some of the stalwarts of the the UWSNT, the centurions that featured in the squad that went to Brazil, have not been included in the 24 player roster for the camp, as the program looks ahead to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019.
Players that have progressed up through the ranks to be called up to the camp include U-20 Women’s World Cup star Kealia Ohai and also Andi Sullivan and Abby Dahlamper who have played at the U-17 WWC.
