James Sanderwick/ Manager/ Villa Dino Girls

Manager James Sanderwick documents Newport-based Villa Dino Girls’ most successful season in their short history, since forming back in 2005.

Last season saw a major positive development, playing our home fixtures on a superb 3G surface at the new FAW Dragon Park facility in Newport. This has been a massive boost to the quality of girls’ football being played.

All our squads were also much stronger than previous seasons so our Head Coach, Steve Johnson has been able to develop the players skills and team play even further.

The U-12s were again runners-up in the South Wales Girls’ League East Division and the U-14s won their first League title in the South Wales Division 2. With the continued expansion of the Gwent Development Centre, we now have more than a dozen players attending with several already moved onto the FAW Regional Squad.

On Saturday 8th June, we entered three U-13 Girls’ teams in the Corsham Tournament, with every team getting through to the knock-out stage and two of those contesting finals, as they finished winners and runners-up. We followed this by being team mascots and ball girls for the WSL game at Bristol Academy, so it was truly an amazing day for the girls.

Thanks to the continued support of the Welsh Football Trust in developing girls’ football in the area, the U-14s were presented with their trophy and medals for their successful season at the FAW Dragon Park facility on Monday 10th June.
