Moneyfields conceded a two-goal advantage but still won 3-2 away to FA WNL opponents Southampton Women’s FC to reach the Hampshire Cup semi-finals.

Kim Whitcombe gave the Southern League leaders the lead direct from a corner and Katie Shorter headed in the second from another flag-kick on half-time.

Laura Vokes and Jane Yeates hit back as the hosts wiped out the lead in a 13-minute spell, only for Shorter to bundle home the decider from a 72nd-minute corner.

Moneyfields now host a semi-finals on Wednesday 15th January against Southampton FC, with Portsmouth playing Winchester City Flyers in the other tie the following evening.

Goal crazy

Sunday’s County Cup ties did produce some really hefty wins and Oxford United recorded their record victory with a 32-0 thrashing of Launton – from six division beneath them – in the Oxfordshire Cup quarter-finals.

Brogan Moore topscored with seven, Georgia Timms struck six times and there was a 10-minute hat-trick by Carly Johns, while substitue Ellie Searle’s treble took just 7 minutes.

Other teams that went goal-crazy included Wolves (21-0 at Leamington Lions), Long Eaton United (16-0 v Chesterfield Junior Blues), Ipswich Town (17-0 away to AFC Kesgrave) and Barnsley Reserves who put 20 goals past Dearne & District.
