ICA Girls Win FA WSL Continental Youth Cup

ICA Girls Are FA WSL Continental Youth Cup Champions

In February 2015 ICA Sports FC started a project to introduce female football, which saw an exciting new chapter begin in the club’s history. Six girls turned up for this first session and 20 months later you can now add 90 to this number, as the club welcomed their 96th girl at their Under-9 session on Saturday ,1st October.

The club has flourished because they not only provide opportunities for girls to participate in football in a safe, unpressured, enjoyable and encouraging environment but they also put on activities that allows team spirit to be cemented whilst creating unforgettable experiences.

Due to this success the club were selected as Arsenal Ladies’ trusted partner for girls football development in Cambridgeshire and were appointed as an Arsenal Ladies FA WSL Sister Club.

Following the announcement of this affiliation the club were invited to participate in the FA WSL Continental Tyres Youth Cup, one of only 14 clubs from across the country to be invited.

On Sunday 2nd October 2016 the club provided 25 girls, forming three representative teams the opportunity to play at Manchester City’s Etihad Football Complex in a National Tournament.

All three teams performed superbly well during the tournament with all playing a passing, flowing style of football, which is at the heart of the ICA iD and all three teams did the club proud.

Following the tournament all the girls that participated were part of a half-time pitch parade, which celebrated the success of the growth of girls football

The Under-12 team were outstanding throughout tournament, not conceding one goal and ended up topping the Under-12 table. As a result, the girls were presented with their trophy at half time of the FA WSL Continental Cup final between Manchester City and Birmingham City. The girls received a huge cheer from the 4214 strong crowd and ICA chants could be heard ringing out around the ground.
