Ian Wright has explained why he believes Everton should make a change and replace their current head coach, Brian Sorensen.

Everton in poor run of form

The Toffees have endured a difficult 2025-26 season, despite the promise of their 4-1 opening day victory over Liverpool.

In the 12 WSL matches since then, Sorensen’s side have won just one game, remarkably against reigning WSL champions Chelsea.

Everton are locked in the relegation battle, with just two points separating the Toffees, Leicester City, West Ham and Liverpool.

In the latest Crossways Podcast, a question was provided to Wright and co-host Steph Houghton about how long Sorensen should get as Everton manager.

During the question, a stat was provided stating that in 100 games managed, Everton have only won 10 home games.

In response to the question, Wright told Houghton: “You never want people to lose their jobs but if you can’t see a way forward in what he is doing and that stat, 100 games, only 10 home wins, is not good.

“You have to find someone who has the capability of building from the back, you have got Ruby (Mace) just in front of them who can control the game, you’ve got Vignola, you’ve got some good enough players, so build from there.

“So if I am going to be totally honest, I probably would make a change, as bad as it may sound, saying I don’t want people to lose their jobs.”

Houghton defended Wright saying he is making that decision “based on facts”.

She said: “At this moment in time, Everton are not winning enough games and even the style of play is not getting them results.”

What’s next for Everton?

Everton will hope their January transfer window signings help push them away from the relegation battle.

The Toffees host Aston Villa on Sunday, and during his pre-match press conference, Sorensen explained why they signed Laila Harbert on loan from Arsenal.

Everton also signed Hannah Blundell on loan from WSL rivals Manchester United.

However, not all is right at Everton, with star player Kelly Gago recently handing in a transfer request.

In an explosive interview with L’Equipe earlier this month, Gago accused Everton of not being professional.

Sorensen, though, says Everton would only consider selling Gago if their £500,000 valuation of the player is met.

Paris Saint-Germain, who are interested, reportedly only offered £50,000 for Gago.
