Holders C&K Basildon will tackle a trip to Hutton after the draw for the Quarter-Finals of the BBC Essex Women’s Cup was broadcast by the competition supporters on Wednesday (30th November).
Seven clubs battled through the antics of the previous rounds to join the reigning champions, who received a bye to this stage of the competition. Hutton secured their path to the Quarter-Finals with a 1-0 win over Colchester Town and they face a difficult test if they’re to progress any further. Essex’s highest-ranked team, from the FA Women’s Premier League South, lifted the silverware back in April with a win over Writtle.
Last season’s runners-up are also still involved in the 2016/17 competition and a 10-0 win in the last round has booked them a trip to Lawford, who knocked out five-times winners Chelmsford City 3-0 away from home. Elsewhere Harlow Town, winners of last year’s Women’s Trophy, host Little Thurrock Dynamos plus previous finalists Billericay Town entertain Brentwood Town, comfortable away victors at Beacon Hill Rovers last time out.
Two special guests helped with the draw at BBC Essex’s Chelmsford studios. Essex County FA Chief Executive, Phil Sammons, pulled out the home clubs while Ben Fryer from the BBC Essex Sports Team was responsible for the away sides. Those Quarter-Final matches are due to take place in the New Year on Sunday 15th January.
Meanwhile, in the Essex Women’s Trophy, Chelmsford City Reserves are the first finalists of 2016/17 following a walkover against Southend Town. They await the winners of the other semi-final between Frontiers Ladies and Trinity Girls Under 18s on Sunday 19th February to see who’ll face them in the showpiece final on Sunday 12th March.
