Hull City clinched the FA Women’s National League Division 1 North title in style with a 5-1 win away to fifth-placed Leeds United.
The victory took Hull out of reach of their only remaining challengers – Middlesbrough – with one game to spare, securing a return to the third tier after only two seasons.
Two goals in the last ten minutes of the first half set them on their way, Ellie Tanser finding Hope Knight for the first then a free kick out wide from Helen Lynskey looping straight in.
They were three up on 65 minutes when Shakala Brookes tapped in after Knight’s effort was parried by Carrie Simpson, Rachael Ackroyd raced through one on one with the keeper to finish and Knight then completed her double.
Jess Rousseau got a late consolation for Leeds when following up her saved penalty, given for a foul on Sian Gibril-Keating who had only been on the pitch seven minutes.
