High Fives For Hibs Ladies In UWCL Opener

The UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers kicked off on Tuesday morning, with Hibernian winning 5-0 over Swansea City in Romania.

Rachel Small slotted home the opener after 11 minutes and although Jodie Passmore went close with a free kick for the Swans, Katey Turner doubled the lead after Abi Harrison’s shot came back off the post.

Stacey John-Davis met a Katy Hosford through-ball only to see her effort hit the side-netting as Swansea tried to get back into the game.

However, it was Hibs who scored again approaching half time when Lucy Graham fired home a penalty.

Harrison and Alison Witts then both cleared off their own line, as chances followed at either end before the break.

Three minutes after the restart and the points were as good as secured in style, as Siobhan Hunter buried a 25-yard free kick.

Graham then doubled her tally late on, with her shot on the turn completing the scoring.

Group 2 mini-tournament hosts Olimpia Cluj edged Kharkiv 1-0 with a Christina Karp goal on 30 minutes.

Hibernian next play the Ukrainians on Friday morning, while the Swans are up against the Romanians later that day.
