Halifax continued an impressive run of end-of-season results by defeating Wolves 2-1 to move into the top half of the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division.

Lucy Sowerby fired Halifax ahead from outside the area, to give them a half-time advantage at Ilkeston Town’s New Manor Ground.

Fourth-placed Wolves forced an own-goal on the hour mark, as Beth Merrick’s corner was headed into her own net by Nicole Kemp at the near post.

Just two minutes later and substitute Georgia Stevens caught Wolves goalkeeper Bec Thomas off her line, with an effort from the edge of the centre circle.

Halifax have now beaten two top-four teams, as well as holding champions Newcastle United 0-0 in recent weeks.
