GWENT GIRLS MEET GARETH & CO AT EUROS

Llanyrafon Ladies Coach, Kevin Sims, reports from his side’s swift EURO 2016-related visit to France, where they met the Wales men’s squad and won a match with local side San Malo.

The experience had been a prize that Llanyrafon had won, as the first ever female Cwpan y Bobl (Peoples Cup) champions.

But due to exams, three of their players sadly missed out on the money-can’t-buy trip to France.

So the excited makeshift team arrived in Dinard on Tuesday morning, after meeting up with their coach they checked in to their luxury hotel.

The team visited the FAW Media Centre to watch the first press conference of the Wales Euro 2016 competition, and then met up with Chris Coleman and Osian Roberts, along with the press.

The evening saw the champions compete in a local match at FC Dinard, where they twice came from behind to beat Brittany Premier League side San Malo in a thrilling 3-2 win.

After trailing 1-0 at the interval, Eleri Williams restored parity before the local side again took the lead. The girls from Gwent showed great resilience to draw level again through Chloe Jones, before the referee awarded the visitors a late penalty which Chelsea Cochrane converted.

After the match the FAW took the players to a local French restaurant, where they wined and dined to talk over the key moments of the match.

On Wednesday the team went to watch the Wales men train in Dinard and met up with them to get their memorabilia signed before flying back home.

Over all it was a great experience, Dinard welcomed us with open arms and the FAW pulled all the stops out to make our prize special and memorable.
