Gloucestershire hosted Devon in a crucial clash of first and second in the South & West Counties Championship at Almondsbury last night and coasted to the title with an 11-0 win.
It was the hosts’ final game and although Devon still have another fixture, their continued defence of the title depended on them defeating last season’s runners-up.
Any hopes of that were blown away by the break, with the home side 4-0 up.
Bethany Clatworthy scored direct from a corner, Maddy Brown, Abbi Todd and Abby Rose adding one each by half-time.
Rhianne Oakley made it 5-0 with a neat finish, Elsa Carrera was next on target, with Brown then netting her second.
Although Devon continued to push for a breakthrough, Carrera doubled her tally to take the score to 8-0 with 10 minutes to go.
Jamie-Leigh Worlock then got on the scoresheet, before Oakley completed her hat-trick with two late goals.
The next match in the competition is on 12th September when Dorset face Somerset, with the latter then hosting Devon in the final fixture on 3rd October.
