Glasgow focused for home second leg

Glasgow City train ahead of their home 2nd leg last 32 Champions League match against Standard Liege, after drawing 2-2 in Belgium last week.

Glasgow City, trained at the match venue ahead of their deciding home match 2nd leg last 32 Champions League match against Belgian side Standard Liege.

A Suzanne Lappin double gave City two precious away goals in last week’s 2-2 draw in Belgium to set up a thrilling finale at Petershill Park on Thursday night.

Speaking ahead of the big match, City Head Coach, Eddie Wolecki Black commented, “To be honest, our home record has not been great in Champions League football. But I think at times that has been because we have been at home first.

“This time, due to our seeding, we got to play away for the initial leg and so have had a good look at our opposition. Standard Liege are a very talented team. They are organised, athletic and very efficient in attack and gave us a very tough match last week.

“However, apart from the opening 25 minutes, I don’t think we performed anywhere near the level that we can and so we will be looking to correct that tomorrow night.

“We are hoping for a packed Petershill to get behind the team and urge them on to victory to take us to the last 16. It is about time we put on a level of performance in Europe that has come to be expected of us at Petershill and we aim to do that on Thursday.”

Glasgow City Captain, Rachel Corsie said, “Sue’s goals last week could prove crucial, but we can play for nothing other than a win. We know we are good enough to get through this tie and we need every one of us to play to our best to make that possible.

“Our level of support this year has been fantastic and we hope the fans turn out again on Thursday. We saw the difference a large support made to our opposition in Liege and we hope to have similar at Petershill backing us. This is the biggest game of our season so far and we are focused on getting the result we need to progress into the next round.”
