High Fives For City

Glasgow City put five goals past injury-hit Spartans to stay top of the Scottish Premier League.

Hayley Lauder raced clear to lob Rachel Harrison for an early opener and the lead was doubled by Sam Kerr, who turned in the rebound from Nic Docherty’s cross that had hit the woodwork.

Harrison made an impressive save to deny Leanne Crichton and Abbi Grant had a goal ruled out but made it 3-0 on half-time at the second attempt.

Crichton got on the scoresheet from a Megan Foley cut back and Leanne Ross later rounded off the scoring.

Hibs Win First Of Double-Header

Hibernian again kept up the pace with the leaders, defeating Stirling University 2-0 to remain with a point of the champions of the last ten years.

Siobhan Hunter crashed a free kick against the bar but it was 67 minutes before the hosts broke the deadlock.

Emma Brownlie delivered a corner onto the penalty spot and Joelle Murray was there to head it home.

It was into the final 5 minutes before Hibs sealed the win, Rachel McLauchlan firing into the top corner from the edge of the box, despite a hand from keeper Chloe Logan.

Hibs visit Stirling for the return fixture on Wednesday, with the chance to go back to the top of the league.

Goal Rush Sees Celtic Seal Points

Celtic are three points ahead of Spartans in third following a 4-0 victory over Hamilton Academical, who are now six points from safety.

Natalie Ross hit the bar for Celtic and on 33 minutes, Sarah Ewens crossed for a fine finish from Kirsty Howat.

The Accies were down to ten in the 38th minute, with Joanne Paton red-carded for an off the ball incident.

Hamilton were close to levelling on with a shot just over the bar but Celtic then secured the win with three goals in a 15-minute spell.

A Ruesha Littlejohn tap was followed by a 25-yard strike from Jamie-Lee Napier and then Littlejohn netted again following up Ross’s shot that hit the crossbar.

Rangers

Rangers moved well clear of the drop zone when beating basement side Aberdeen 4-1, thanks mainly to three goals in the first 30 minutes.

Lisa Swanson converted a 12th-minute penalty won by Clare Gemmell, before setting up Hayley Sinclair to score the second.

Moments late it was 3-0, Sinclair turning provider for Hannah Robertson to finish but the Dons pulled one back 7 minutes into stoppage-time.

The visitors should have scored a second just after the hour mark but missed an open goal following a rebound off the bar.

With the Dons unable to further reduce the deficit, Sinclair netted her second for Rangers in added time.

Forfar Go Seven Points Clear

Forfar Farmington went seven points clear in SWPL 2 after defeating Glasgow Girls 3-0 in the top of the table clash. Cheryl Kilcoyne and a Megan McCarthy double secured the win by the break.

Hearts just held onto third spot despite a 1-0 home reverse to Jeanfield Swifts, for whom Danni McGinley found the net.

Motherwell could only manage one goal at home to lowly East Fife but it was enough to move them level on points with Hearts.

Edinburgh University Hutchison Vale beat Buchan 3-0. Anna Murray struck from 30 yards, Beth MacLeod double the lead before half-time and an Ashley Fish effort via a corner was deemed to have crossed the line.
