Glasgow City continued their fine domestic form with a 7-0 thrashing of Aberdeen at the Excelsior Stadium with Clare Shine hitting a hat-trick and Savannah McCarthy, Keeva Keenan, Erin Cuthbert and Haley Rosen all netting (pictured, by Tommy Hughes).
City head out to Sweden this week to take on Eskilstuna United in the last 32 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League and Scott Booth’s side look to have hit form at the right time of the season.
All City’s goals came in the first half with Haley Rosen getting the show on the road, slotting into the bottom corner after running in behind the Aberdeen defence.
Goal number two arrived seven minutes later, as McCarthy headed home a Fiona Brown cross after a City corner. Fellow centre half Keeva Keenan followed suit soon after heading into the back of the net from close range and Clare Shine scored the first of her goals on 31 minutes after good set up from Leanne Ross.
Erin Cuthbert scored a cheeky back heel after brilliantly pulling the ball out of the air in the penalty box and Shine robbed Lauren Davidson in the Dons nets to score her second.
With four minutes remaining before the break, Shine got her hat-trick converting a Brown cross, to put the game completely out of sight at half time.
Booth made all possible five changes in the second half and with the game over as a contest, City continued to control the match, hitting the woodwork twice and with Aberdeen failing to record one effort at goal the entire 90 minutes.
Commenting on the win over Aberdeen, Head Coach Scott Booth said, “I was really delighted with the intensity of the team performance today and with the clinical finishing, which let us down last week. All parts of our game were spot on today and it was a terrific performance to take into the Champions League.”
The Scottish Champions remain five points clear with three SWPL games remaining, but attention now turns to Europe and the tough match against Eskilstuna United on Thursday.
