Liverpool have kicked off their season with back to back defeats, but Reds manager Gareth Taylor thinks his side have been hard done by so far.

Gareth Taylor’s team followed a 4-1 defeat to Everton with a 1-0 loss against Leicester last weekend.

After a thrashing in the Merseyside derby, Liverpool were hoping to get back on track against the Foxes last week.

Again the Reds fell apart though even with their opponents reduced to 10 players. Although they held a player advantage for the majority of the game, Liverpool lost to a Leicester side that was battling relegation last year.

Liverpool dealt tough start to season

Despite the defeats, new Liverpool boss Gareth Taylor feels hard done by in the WSL to kick off the season.

“The result was frustrating and I think we have been dealt two harsh results, certainly when you look at the context of the games.” Taylor said on Liverpool’s official website. “From the outside looking in, obviously those two results are disappointing, but I think anyone at both of those games will see we have been hard done by.

“I felt that we probably controlled more of the Leicester game than we did the Everton game, so that was a positive in terms of sustaining attacks. But I just felt even though we built the play up really well, it was the final bit that let us down.”

Liverpool dominated almost every statistic against the Foxes but they still weren’t able to find the back of the net in another disappointing result.

“Sunday’s game was tough because if you play that game again 100 times over and play in the manner that we did, I didn’t feel we deserved to lose that game – but that’s what football can do to you sometimes.” Taylor continued.

What next for Liverpool?

After their second defeat of the campaign, Taylor admitted that his team needs to improve before their next game.

Liverpool are still in desperate search of their first points this season but they have a good opportunity to get on the board this weekend.

The Reds travel to Aston Villa on Sunday in the WSL. Villa are one of four other teams in the league to still not have a win under their belt this season.
