France And Spain Top UEFA U-19 Groups

Monday July 25th
UEFA U-19 CHAMPIONSHIP
GROUP A:
Netherlands 1-2 France, Norway 0-0 Slovakia (abandoned due to waterlogged pitch)
GROUP B: Germany 3-1 Austria, Switzerland 0-5 Spain

Goals from Lucía García and Sandra Hernández gave the Spanish a 2-0 interval lead over a much-changed Swiss side. Lucia Garcia soon got the third after the break, with Nahikari García adding a brace of her own as Switzerland suffered their heaviest EURO U-19 finals loss.

Germany bowed out with a 3-1 win over finals debutants Austria, Nina Ehegötz giving the Germans a half-time advantage. Laura Freigang’s deflected shot and a Stefanie Sanders effort took the lead to 3-0, before Ivana Feric came off the bench to net Austria’s first ever finals goal, created by fellow sub Duygu Karkac’s first touch.

Marie-Antoinette Katoto headed France in front on 18 minutes and then won a penalty, which Grace Geyoro converted. The Dutch pulled a goal back on the hour mark through
Jill Roord.

Norway and Slovakia were goalless when their match was called off shortly after half-time, as heavy rain made the pitch unplayable. As neither side could progress, the result stands as 0-0.

In Thursday’s semi-finals, France will face Switzerland and Spain take on the Netherlands, with both games live on Eurosport at 3pm and 7.30pm.

Sunday’s final in Senec will also be televised live by Europsort and kick-off is 6pm.
