France And Spain Reach U-19 EUROS Final

Thursday July 28th
UEFA U-19 CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINALS

France 3-1 Switzerland

France made it into a record eighth U-19 EURO final but only after coming from behind to thwart the Swiss.

Switzerland took the lead just before half-time through Géraldine Reuteler took advantage of a poor back pass.

But Clara Mateo made a dramatic entrance at the start of the second half, combining with fellow sub Perle Morroni to equalise.

France were ahead 4 minutes later, as Mateo cut the ball back for Marie-Antoinette Katoto to rifle in. The favour was returned shortly after, with Mateo’s second goal making sure the French went through.

Spain 4-3 Netherlands

In the second semi-final, the Dutch twice went in front but a Sandra Hernández hat-trick ultimately put Spain into their third straight final.

Suzanne Admiraal’s 22nd-minute opener was quickly cancelled out by Hernandez, who was to level again following Jill Roord’s 59th-minute goal for the Netherlands.

Marta Cazalla had Spain ahead for the first time on 73 minutes and Hernandez then extended that advantage, before Michelle Hendricks cut the deficit with 6 minutes remaining,

Sunday’s final in Senec kicks off at 6pm and is live on Eurosport (with SK Editor Jen O’Neill & Wayne Boyce for comms on the game).
