FIFA Bans Equatorial Guinea From 2019 World Cup

Equatorial Guinea will not be permitted to compete at the 2019 World Cup, should they qualify, having been charged with fielding ineligible players during the 2016 Olympic preliminaries.

Their national association have been fined 100,000 French francs after forged and falsified documents were apparently used by two of its players, reports fifa.com

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee considered that the following ten players, who all participated in the Olympic qualifiers, were not eligible to play for Equatorial Guinea:

1. Ana Lucia Nascimiento dos Santos
2. Mirian Silva da Paixao
3. Adriana Soares Parente
4. Dulcia Maria Davi
5. Bruna Amarante da Silva
6. Ana Cristina da Silva
7. Jumaria Barbosa de Santana
8. Vania Cristina Martins
9. Carolina Conceicao Martins Pereira
10. Adriana Aparecida Costa

In addition, Muriel Linda Mendoua Abessolo and Francisca Angue Ondo Asangono, who also took part in the qualifiers for Rio 2016, were found to have fallen foul of forgery and falsification regulations and were each sanctioned with a ten-match suspension, to be served in the next matches of any representative team for which they may be eligible.

Equitorial Guinea had last year been banned from both the 2018 and 2020 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations after a complaint from Mali over ineligible players.
