Female Footie Hits All Time High in Nottingham

As Nottingham prepares to host England’s Women against Estonia on September 15 at Meadow Lane research reports that over 1000 women and girls across the city have taken part in City of Football sessions, many for the first time.

New programmes and initiatives supported by the City of Football have delivered a range of female only sessions across Nottinghamto a brand new breed of female footballers, with 49% of sessions attended by females.

By working with organisations and communities from across the city, Nottingham City of Football have been able to offer sessions such as female only nights, samba football and walking football.

Amanda Chambers, Managing Director of Nottingham City of Football, commented; “To have engaged with so many female footballers across the city is an outstanding achievement and we would like to thank everyone who has played their part in making it happen.

“Female football continues to grow and grow and in conjunction with our delivery partners we have been able to deliver brand new concepts and ways of delivering football that has made in more female friendly.

“Women and girls have embraced football across the city and with the help of the England team visit in September we are hoping for that number to keep growing.”

City of Football sessions cater for a range females including Women’s walking football, Veterans football, a female only 5-aside league run by Female Football Fives and a Girls only multi-sport summer camps (from 6 years).

Key challenges to be met for Nottingham City of Football include raising the levels of participation in football in Nottingham, promoting the cultural, social, health and educational benefits of football, supporting diversity among those playing football, and creating new initiatives, which can be replicated across other regions in the country.
