Manchester City are joint Barclays FA Women’s Super League leaders with Arsenal after a 3-1 win against Everton gave them an almost indentical record to the Gunners.

Everton hit the post in the first minute through Hannah Cain but Caroline Weir set up Pauline Bremer to give City the only goal of the first half.

Tinja-Riikka Korpela prevented a Danielle Turner own-goal but Everton were punished when Taylor Hinds was dispossessed by Lauren Hemp and Bremer netted her second of the night.

Cain was again denied by the woodwork and Bremer’s overhead kick clipped the bar, before Gemma Bonner made it 3-0 when netting at the back post from a free-kick.

Korpela denied Georgia Stanway and turned an Ellen White effort onto the post, before Stanway conceded an own-goal off a corner to leave City and Arsenal with the same points, goals for and against ahead of the Gunners game at Brighton on Sunday.

Attendance: 1,681
