Bristol City beat Liverpool 2-1 at Stoke Gifford Stadium on Saturday 17 November to leapfrog them into sixth place in the FAWSL
Satara Murray made a great block to deny Bristol’s Ella Rutherford and Christie Murray played a one-two with Courtney Sweetman-Kirk before driving just wide of the Vixens’ goal.
City then struck twice in a three-minute spell as Lucy Graham headed home a Julie Biesmans corner and then Anka Preuss could only parry Biesmans’ long range effort and Rutherford hit home the rebound.
Niamh Fahey headed narrowly wide for the visitors before Sweetman-Kirk got them back in the game 9 minutes before the break, with a back-post finish from a Rinsola Babajide cross.
It might have been level by the break but Laura Coombs’ strike dipped just over the crossbar.
Going into the last 20 minutes, Jess Clarke volleyed just too high from Coombs’ free kick and the latter saw her long-range effort punched away by Sophie Baggaley.
Sweetman-Kirk was later also thwarted by Baggaley and Yana Daniels’ follow-up was blocked.
