FAWPL Championship Play-Off At The Valley

The match will not only determine the overall FA WPL champions but bring with it promotion to WSL 2, subject to meeting licence criteria.

Charlton Athletic CEO Katrien Meire told cafc.co.uk: “We are very proud to be hosting such a prestigious game in the women’s football calendar.

“Now we just have to hope Charlton get to the final so we can get a big crowd behind them.”

League chair Carol West said: “The Valley is the ideal venue for the climax to The FA WPL season.

“Each club will have earned their place in the final following a punishing campaign against some very good teams so to top their respective tables is an achievement in itself.

“With promotion a possibility for the winner, the reward is two-fold, and if the last two Championship finals are anything to go by we are in for a fantastic game of football at a wonderful stadium.”

Charlton currently sit second the Southern Division – behind league-leaders Tottenham – and will be hoping to battle it out to become champions on home turf.

Women’s team chairman Stephen King said: “We are delighted with the higher profile being given to our team and to women’s football in general by the club. Holding the end of season play-off match at The Valley is a demonstration of that.

“We have an ambition to become outright FA Women’s Premier League champions ourselves. To do that we will have to win the Southern Division and then beat our counterparts in the Northern Division on May 28th. It is a tall order but by no means impossible. It would be great if we were one of the teams involved.”
