FAWNL: Wolves Women win while title rivals drop points

Wolverhampton Wanderers strengthened their leadership of the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division.

Northern Premier Division

Derby County 1-3 Brighouse Town (Att: 182)
Hull City 4-0 Sheffield FC
Middlesbrough 0-4 Wolverhampton Wanderers (Att: 195)
West Bromwich Albion 2-2 Fylde (Att: 125)

Wolves went six points clear with victory at Middlesbrough where they scored four first-half goals, while their two nearest title rivals were dropping points. Leah Embley, Drew Greene and Lucy Sowerby scored as Brighouse won at Derby, while Fylde had to settle for a draw at West Brom. Elsewhere, Hull beat Sheffield FC in the basement battle.

Lucia Kendall hit a hat-trick in Southampton’s win at Cardiff as the Saints took a chance to cut the gap on the top two. Chichester & Selsey got a point against Gillingham, Plymouth stepped further from the drop zone at the expense of MK Dons. Bridgwater came away from Crawley 2-1 winners.

Boldmere’s win at Wem put them nine points clear at the top from two more games than Doncaster, Burton are relegated after being hit for six by Solihull.

Newcastle won 2-0 at third-placed Leeds to go four points ahead of Liverpool Feds but from two game more. Barnsley bagged four at Alnwick as they continue to battle to escape the drop zone.

Hashtag United are five points ahead of second-placed Billericay following a goalless draw at third-in-the-table Wimbledon. Norwich City’s Natasha Snelling, Kathryn Stanley and Freya Symonds all found the net in a relegation ‘six-pointer’ with Harlow, Kent Football United’s second win of the season came over Cambridge City.

Cheltenham lead Bournemouth by four points in the title race following a 2-0 win at Portishead, Maidenhead attracted their biggest ever crowd in the league but went down 4-0 to Southampton Women, who leapfrogged them into fourth spot.
