FAWNL: Ipswich Town Women win as title rivals drop points

Ipswich Town strengthened their position at the top of the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.

Northern Premier Division

Wolves bounced back from a first defeat, winning 3-0 at Loughborough while Derby kept up the pace with a similar result over Huddersfield. Fylde and Nottingham Forest also banked three more points, Shannon Stamps bagged a brace as West Brom beat Hull 4-2, Middlesbrough beat Sheffield FC to get out of the relegation zone at the expense of Loughborough.

Results went the way of leaders Ipswich, as while they were winning in Wales aided by an Anna Grey double, relegation-threatened MK Dons pulled of a victory over Oxford and Southampton were held at home by Bridgwater. Iesha Swaby scored four of Crawley’s seven goals, Mel Espinosa hit a hat-trick for Gillingham, Shannon Albuery also with a treble for Portsmouth. Plymouth came from behind to defeat Chichester & Selsey, who had substitute Jane Yeates sent off.

Belles beat Burton at the Eco-Power Stadium on Saturday night, Lauren Breen and Nadia Khan each with a goal and an assist. But Boldmere’s win on Sunday but them three points clear again.

Billericay beat Actonians to close the gap on leaders Hashtag United, AFC Wimbledon edged Enfield to go third, Stevenage won to give their hopes of avoiding the drop a big boost.

Cheltenham beat Bournemouth to knock them off the top, Charlotte Criddle and Tamzin Hayward on target before a late reply. Exeter rose two places to fourth with a win at Maidenhead.
