FAWNL: Burnley Women become first to beat leaders Wolves

Burnley sent FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers to a 3-0 defeat.

Courtney Willis got the first two goals as Burnley ended Wolves long unbeaten league run, West Brom defeated second-placed Derby at The Hawthorns, Leigh Dugmore and Evie Gallop the scorers. Middlesbrough boosted their hopes of staying up when hitting hosts Stoke City for six, Ellie Dobson and Armani Maxwell each bagging a brace.

Southern Premier Division

Gillingham 0-0 Milton Keynes Dons (Att: 43)
Hounslow 0-2 Plymouth Argyle (Att: 35)

Ipswich regained the leadership with the only goal of the game at Bridgwater through Anna Grey, MK Dons got a good point at fourth-placed Gillingham but dropped into the relegation zone as Plymouth won at Hounslow with Jemma Rose and Tash Knapman on target.

Division 1 Midlands

Boldmere St Michaels 7-0 Bedworth United (Att: 30)
Doncaster Rovers Belles 5-1 Leafield Athletic
Leek Town 2-2 Lincoln City (Att: 60)
Solihull Moors 4-2 Wem Town

Boldmere beat Bedworth 7-0 to stay top, Doncaster defeated Leafield 5-1 to keep up the pressure. Leek and Lincoln both lost ground after sharing four goals.

Newcastle United beat Leeds United to go top of the table

Newcastle United are within two points of top side Liverpool Feds after sinking third-in-the-table Leeds United 6-2, Kacie Elson contributing a first-half hat-trick. Barnsley improved their survival hopes with a 2-1 victory at Chorley.

The top two both won, Hashtag with five goals at Norwich, Billericay going one better at Enfield, while Actonians beat London Seaward 3-0 to go third. Stevenage won the basement battle with Kent Football United 3-0 to improve their chances of staying up.

AFC Bournemouth were 6-1 winners over Maidenhead United as they retook pole position from Cheltenham Town.

League Cup Semi-Finals

Liverpool Feds 0-1 Huddersfield Town
Southampton FC 2-0 Crawley Wasps

Huddersfield Town and Southampton FC won through to the League Cup Final, Katie Stanley scored at the start of the second half as the Terriers ended the Feds’ fine run, Katie Rood put the Saints in front against Crawley and set up Alisha Ware to double the lead.


League Plate Semi-Finals

Cheltenham Town 0-3 Nottingham Forest
Sporting Khalsa 1-4 AFC Wimbledon

Nottingham Forest will face Division 1ย  AFC Wimbledon for the League Plate, Gianna Mitchell’s opener and a Charlotte Greengrass brace saw Forest eliminate Cheltenham, the Dons progressed past Sporting Khalsa with a Ashlee Hincks treble.
