FAWNL: Billericay Town end Oxford United Women’s winning start

Billericay Town became the first side to take points off Oxford United in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier this season.

Northern Premier Division

Wolves won at third-placed Nottingham Forest – aided by a Amber Hughes brace – to stay goal-difference ahead of Burnley at the top, the Clarets taking the points 3-2 at Boldmere thanks to Leah Embley last-gasp winner.

Southern Premier Division

Billericay Town were the first to deny leaders Oxford United a victory in a 1-1 tie, Beau Parker with a second-half equaliser. Second-placed Portsmouth did not take advantage as they went down 1-0 to London Bees, who are now level on points with Pompey after Danielle Puddefoot’s free-kick was turned home by RyahVyse. Plymouth beat Crawley thanks to Zoe Cunningham’s first-half double, which included a penalty.

Stourbridge put four past Peterborough as the newcomers went top and the Posh slipped to fourth. While Solihull were held at home by Leek, Leafield went level on points with them after victory at Wem.

Merseyrail’s first ever point at this level came against leaders Barnsley, second-placed Newcastle were frustrated at home by Chorley despite another bumper crowd, while Norton leapfrogged Leeds when defeating them 3-1.

The top four all won, Hashtag holding the leadership from Norwich, who took the points against QPR at Loftus Road. Another big crowd was at Plough Lane to witness a Wimbledon win.

The top two both lost as Swindon Town’s Annabelle Colston hit a hat-trick to edge Bournemouth and Cardiff put five past Exeter.
